Moderate IV sedation (also known as conscious sedation) is a type of anesthesia that is administered through an intravenous (IV) line to help a patient feel relaxed and comfortable during a medical procedure. It is called “moderate” because it allows the patient to remain conscious and responsive during the procedure, while still reducing pain and anxiety. During moderate IV sedation, a combination of medications is used to produce a state of deep relaxation, drowsiness, and reduced awareness. The patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing, are closely monitored throughout the procedure to ensure their safety.
Moderate IV sedation is commonly used for dental procedures such as extractions, implants and full mouth dental surgeries.
We perform a thorough medical examination to ensure you are a good candidate for IV sedation. Your health and safety are our top priority. If you are a candidate, you will be provided a detailed list of pre – op and post op instructions to provide a great experience before, during and after the procedure.
Two key things to remember, you cannot eat anything for 6 hours before the sedation time, and you MUST have a ride present to help escort you to the vehicle and take you home.
